INTERVIEW WITH IURISEKERO
Always connected to music through his grandfather — a singer who recorded several albums — and his father, a trumpet player, IurisEkero releases his debut album, “Proyecto One”, thanks to the possibilities offered by new technologies.
This album includes potential hits, including his first single, “Midnight Drive”.
In this interview, he shares the origin of the project, the message behind each song, and his next steps in the world of music — including the high-production video coming soon.
“Have you always had the idea of writing songs?”
Yes, always. Since I was a teenager, I imagined my own songs based on situations in my life and stories from people close to me. My grandfather was a singer, and my father, a trumpet player, used to take me to watch his band’s concerts when I was a child.
At the age of 7, I took piano lessons, although I didn’t progress much.
I have a collection of over 2,000 CDs and more than 600 vinyl records, so I think music has always had a major impact on my life — and on my family’s as well.
I’m not a musician, but I love music! I’m a fan of many pop artists, especially ABBA.
“And how did the idea for this album come about?”
About eight months ago, I started going through some lyrics I had saved and began exploring the possibility of putting them to music using new technologies.
On my first try, I was so surprised by the result that I decided to keep working until I completed what is now “Proyecto One.”
I’m very proud of this album; it has everything I look for in a musical project. I hope people enjoy it as much as I do.
It also features a mix of styles and blends English and Spanish seamlessly — even though I initially had doubts about whether it should be that way.
“What did Artificial Intelligence contribute to this album?”
All the lyrics are entirely mine, while my partner — so to speak — helped me partly with the music and with editing the lyrics, especially in English.
Even though I speak English, I needed help with certain expressions.
It’s truly amazing how emotion and AI-generated voices come together through technology.
I also selected the voices myself.
“Do all the songs tell a personal story or experience of yours, or did some come purely from your creativity?”
Not all of them, but some songs are definitely personal.
For example, “Midnight Drive” is based on a road trip I took from Minneapolis to Sioux Falls with a very dear friend, after we missed our flight and had to get there. It was an incredible adventure...
Another song, “Un Día No, Un Día Sí”, is about a couple in which one of the partners is unfaithful and lives between the ups and downs of happiness one day and sadness the next.
It raises the question: which day is truly happy? The one spent with their lover, or the one with their partner?
I went through something similar — I couldn’t understand why one day everything felt great and the next it didn’t... until the truth came out and she explained what was going on.
“Recuerdos de Primavera” is dedicated to my teenage girlfriend; we were together for over ten years. I still have a lot of affection for her.
That song talks about a love that has gone through many stages and remained strong over time, despite everything.
“Is there a song that stands out as your favorite?”
Yes, a few. I really like “Grateful for Today”, which carries a message about appreciating each day and everything we experience.
“Farewell, My Love” is about the end of love and how you become a stranger in someone else’s memories — as if you had never existed.
But the one I think is truly beautiful is “Someone Who Looks at You Like That – Alguien Que Te Mire Así”:
“…when you see those couples who look at each other with admiration, respect, tenderness — that’s what the song is about: finding someone who looks at you like that, in that unique way that goes straight to the soul.”
“The album is called ‘Proyecto One’. Are there more projects coming in the future, and is there a video about to be released?”
The album is called that because it truly was a project that grew and came to life.
We're currently filming a major video here in Mendoza to accompany the single “Midnight Drive.”
I believe there will be a lot more music from IurisEkero in 2025, and I’m grateful to everyone who contributed in one way or another to this incredible production.
